Coppersmith & Enameller
Joanne Horrobin’s beautiful artwork brings you form and precious, vivid colour, with a gaze into spiritual and conceptual ideas of love and loss, movement, and homecoming.
Inspired by reflective light and minute detail of nature; by the vast yet gentle curves of the Exmoor landscape, Joanne creates a powerful synthesis in fused vitreous enamel and copper.
Joanne works in a very demanding medium of copper and enamel producing work reminiscent of the finest work produced by artists at the height of the Arts and crafts Movement in the nineteenth century. Each piece is unique by the very nature of the material which cannot by its very nature be predictable. Joanne says of her work: “The fusing of the enamel is not always entirely predictable since many factors determine the finished results; I regard the design of each piece as an exploration of colour and form”.
Joanne works the bowls into shape from a flat piece of copper by hand ultimately planishing them with a smooth hammer.
